Covestro acquires Vencorex production sites in Thailand and US to expand global coatings footprint
B910化工消息:7 Yue 5 Ri Xiao Xi, German chemical giant Covestro has announced the acquisition of Vencorex production sites in Thailand and the United States, further strengthening its leading position in the global coatings raw materials market. Vencorex is one of the world's major producers of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) derivatives.
The acquisition covers two key production bases: an HDI derivatives plant in Rayong, Thailand and a production facility in Texas, USA. The Thai plant is located within an important petrochemical industry cluster in Southeast Asia, offering strong locational advantages and logistics capabilities.
HDI derivatives are core raw materials for polyurethane-based coatings, adhesives, and sealants, widely used in automotive OEM coatings, industrial anti-corrosion coatings, aerospace coatings, and wood coatings. With the continuous growth of the Asia-Pacific coatings market, the strategic value of the Thai production base has become increasingly prominent.
Covestro stated that by integrating Vencorex's production facilities and technical capabilities, the company will be better positioned to serve global customers, particularly in the Asia-Pacific and North American markets. The acquisition will complement Covestro's existing isocyanate product portfolio and enhance its competitiveness in high-performance coatings raw materials.
Industry analysts believe Covestro's move reflects multinational chemical companies' confidence in the long-term growth of the Asia-Pacific coatings market. As infrastructure construction, automotive manufacturing, and industrial development continue to advance in the region, demand for high-quality coatings raw materials will continue to expand.
